OVERVIEW HSLM Coast Guard is a law enforcement and search and rescue agency reporting to the Ministry of Public Safety. It is responsible for securing Serpens Land's maritime borders, performing search and rescue duties, and patrolling ports and waterways. It facilitates maritime trade and the movement of people while preventing harmful goods and persons from entering Serpens Land. Coast Guard staff carry out their duties from over 50 coast guard stations and ports around Serpens Land. It operates over 100 maritime vessels of various sizes and 20 helicopters. RESPONSIBILITIES Formed in 2001, HSLM Coast Guard is responsible for: PERSONNEL HSLM Coast Guard is a civilian law enforcement and search and rescue agency. It is not affiliated with the Serpens Land Armed Forces. However, some of their duties - such as search and rescue - may overlap. Despite being a law enforcement agency, HSLM Coast Guard does not follow a conventional law enforcement or paramilitary rank structure. Different roles within HSLM Coast Guard are denoted by coloured bands on the rank insignia. Regular and deck officers wear standard black insignia, engineering officers wear purple insignia, electrical officers wear green insignia, medical officers wear red insignia, and logistics officers wear white insignia. TRAINING All aspiring coast guardsmen attend the Serpens Land Coast Guard Academy where they receive basic law enforcement, firearms, and seamanship training. Coast guardsmen also receive practical training onboard coast guard vessels before they graduate the Coast Guard Academy. After graduation, coast guardsmen move on to more specialised training for their chosen occupation within HSLM Coast Guard. OUR FLEET HSLM Coast Guard operates over 100 vessels of varying sizes. Coast Guard vessels carry the prefix HSLMC, standing for His Serpens Land Majesty's Cutter.
