The human beginnings of Cozia extend back to the Period of Exploration, when settlers across the world were leaving their homes in search of a better, more prosperous life. Although Cozia is a large-sized nation, because it encompasses a secluded land, settlers did not initially arrive to the nation until late in the period.
Although settlers had a diverse variety of reasons for leaving their homeland, most early colonists and settlers made the decision to settle in Cozia because they were searching for a more prosperous life. Some common reasons included hope for monetary and financial success, fear of a corrupt government, or a desire for a change of culture and ideas.
One distinctive feature of Cozia's early period of settlement was its diversity and range of nations from which settlers arrived. Unlike most new areas being settled during the period, Cozia's early settlers were not from one main country or region, but rather attracted colonists from a wide variety of places. Most historians agree the reasons for this diversity of settlement was due to Cozia's geography, as Cozia is on a large land surrounded by numerous equidistant regions.
Cozia's beginnings of diverse settlement created a unique but unified culture. The early settlers brought a wide variety of ideas, religions, and traditions, which settlers and exchanged and blended. This formed a unique, homogenous culture, built from various parts of different regions, which cannot be found anywhere except in Cozia.
The new settlers of Cozia first arrived in the nation by ship, landing in the central area of Cozia, in modern-day Lovely Bay. The lush landscape, fertile soil, and rich natural environment made an ideal place to settle, and settlements and town quickly became a hub for economic and social activity.
Early settlers wrote home about the beautiful natural environment and rich landscape of Cozia, quickly attracting more settlers. Soon, people arrived from many different regions, settling all around the land. Rivers that traversed the land, such as the Givenwell River and the Dulep River, aided the settlement and economic prosperity of the young nation.
Although there a unified culture on the land, there were not any significant attempts to a form a national government among early settlers. Rather, local governments formed in cities and town, based around smaller areas on the land. Most of these governments had a similar structure, consisting of a democratically elected "leader", and a council of about 4-12 councilmembers, depending on the population of the area.
About half a century after the land's initial discovery, communication networks were built nationwide, and agreements were made to form a national Cozian government. This exchange resulted in the first draft of what would later become The Cozia Foundational Document. The document outlined the founding principles that would form the government and culture of Cozia.
The nation of Cozia is located on a large land known as Cozia, which is divided into 72 distinct provinces. Below is a map of these geographical areas.

Abalana is the largest province in the Alpine Region, located in the western half of the region. Abalana’s evergreen forests, which contain coniferous trees such as pine, spruce, and Abalana fir, are home to wolves, elk, moose, deer, and the province animal, the White Fox.
Abalana was one of the earliest provinces settled, and the first province in the Alpine Region to have human settlement. Its early settlers hailed from a monarch kingdom in Wintreath, and its peoples naturally organized the government into a monarchy. This generally benevolent monarchy lasted for several centuries, including past Abalana’s incorporation as a province in Cozia.
Eventually, however, facing pushback from the people of Abalana and the Cozian federal government, the monarchy transitioned into a symbolic state, replaced by a democracy. This period of power left a significant impact upon Abalana culturally, architecturally, and governmentally, earning the province the nickname “The Royal Province”.
Today, Abalana contains a semi-figurehead royal family, lead by Queen Agnia VI, whose ancestor is the namesake of Agnia National Park. Many of the castles and royal palaces, such as Jornfer Palace and Tigria Castle, are popular tourist destinations.
