Athanasia II Augustina
Athanasia II Augustina
"One day I too, might be seen as narrowminded, corrupt and senile but by the grace of god the people will have the power to rid themselves from my rule."
- Athanasia's speech at Alexios VII's funeral.
Athanasia II Augustina ( Athanasia Augustina Ariadne Palaiologina Regina Porphyrogenitus; born 5 September 1983 ) is the Imperatrix of and the Empress of Rome. She ascended the throne on the death of her father, Imperator Alexios VII, on May 11 2016.
She is the only child of Alexios VII, Dux Hadrianopoli, and Augustina Ariadne. The Imperatrix' heir apparent is Crown Prince Adrian, the eldest child of the Imperatrix and her husband, King Consort Georgios Justinianus.
While studying at the Royal institute in Constantinople she became involved with many left winged groups wanting equality for all. Her father publically disapproved of this making him very unpopular among the younger generation. During the attempted military coup in 2011 the former Emperor had his daughter Athanasia Augustina arrested and searched for any links between her and the revolutionaries sealing the fate of their relationship. When he died in 2016 Athanasia held a speech about his dangerously conservative views which was well recieved by the populace.
After being crowned Empress she immediately cancelled several of her fathers policies and outlawed many of the authoritarian actions the government was taking.
Athanasia Augustina was born on 5 September 1983 at 00:05 in the Antiochos palace in Constantinople, Thrace. She was the only child of Alexios VII and Theodora Augustina. She was christened at the Hagia Sophia on 16 February 1984 by the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople with water from the Sea of Galilee.
Her father, Emperor Alexios VII first met the Empress-Mother, Augustina Ariadne, just days before their arranged marriage in 25 December 1982. Augustina Ariadne is the daughter of Appuleius Flavius, a descendant of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom, and Juventia Vasilisa Romanov.
Athanasia Augustina was given the name of her mother, Augustina and the name of Regina upon her baptism along many ceremonial titles and names. She grew up in the Imperial palace being taught by a royal tutor for most of her childhood. She was taught the national languages, the history of the empire along with its geography and geopolitics, the national economy and the art of public speaking. Later in life she worked as a secretary to the minister of foreign affairs until she enrolled in the Constantinople University where she studied History and Economics.
During her youth Athanasia toured the world helping donations to charities visiting foreign leaders and diplomats securing economic ties with European nations and China.
Athanasia II Augustina was coronated 11 May 2016 after the death of her father Alexios VII in the Cathedral of Sancta Sofia, Constantinople. Afterward she appeared before the senate, the court and the diplomatic corps in the imperial palace of Constantinople. Under her reign the empire has seen many left leaning policies and radical changes to the law.
American Relations
After Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election the Empress publically announced her displeasure with him. During the state visit in 5 January 2017 the American president commited several major faux pas such as adressing Athanasia by her first name instead of her full one and made physically contact with the empress. Later during that same visit the American president openly critiqued her Imperial Majesty in front of the entire court causing relations to deteriorate quickly causing The Oriental Empire to oppose the US in most open conflicts during the following four years.
Athanasia Augustina, already disliking the American president for his interventions in the middle east, was furious after the Assassination of Qasem Soleimani. "The situation in the middle east is already delicate enough, we do not need foreign men from foreign shores to meddle or in this case, destroy, our lands." -Athanasia's speech 4 January 2020.
COVID-19 pandemic
The first recorded case of COVID-19 in The Oriental Empire was in 1 February 2020, the Imperatrix herself was diagnosed with COVID-19 13 September 2020 and she was in quarantine until she had fully recovered in 5 October 2020 when she went back to the royal palace in Constantinople to resume her normal affairs.
