Welcome to Northern Utopia!

Also try the guide! If you have any questions, please contact a member of the management team (e.g. The Soviet state of Svalbard or Grenopia).

I’m new! Where should I start?

Welcome! We recommend reading this dispatch and then exploring what we have to offer through the useful links at the bottom.

It’s a really good idea to join our LinkDiscord server, where you can get to know other members.

What is Northern Utopia about?

Northern Utopia is a region (group of nations) which focuses on roleplay (writing about fictional events happening in our nations) and worldbuilding (fleshing out the world of Utopia by expanding on what our nations are like through writing about history, culture etc.). Roleplay can be done by a single player (writing about events going on in their own nation) or many nations together (writing about diplomacy, war, or other events that affect more than one nation). It can be done at a national level (e.g. an account of a nation signing a pact with another nation) or at a personal level (e.g. looking at events from the perspective of a certain character/figure in the government). You are encouraged to be creative with what you write; we treat roleplay not as a game in which it is the goal to ‘win’, but as an evolving story being written by all of our members. If you enjoy writing and have a productive imagination, you’ll love NU.

That’s not all! We also chat, discuss topics and play games on our Discord server.

What is the roleplay setting? What is the world of Utopia like?

See our world, Utopia, Linkhere. It is similar to the planet Earth (meaning that many Earth concepts are similar or the same on the world of Utopia), but the planet Utopia has its own unique continents, oceans and nations.

Time moves at the same rate as it does in real life. Every ‘real’ day is a day in the world of Utopia. The date is the same as the date in real life. If you’re reading this on the 17th of October, your nation is experiencing the 17th of October.

Most nations have access to the technologies of the year 2030 (near future technology). The management team is responsible for deciding what is acceptable in roleplay.

Where can I roleplay?

Most roleplay takes place on the Regional Message Board. However, summits/in-character meetings sometimes take place on the LinkDiscord server.

How long do my Regional Message Board posts need to be?

A post on the Regional Message Board must be at least 90 words. We encourage you to make your posts as meaningful and impactful as possible.

Where can I talk to other members?

Join our LinkDiscord server to talk to other members.

Can I chat on the Regional Message Board?

Do not use the RMB for conversation/discussion. If you ever need to use the RMB for non-roleplay purposes (e.g. clarifying something in one of your roleplay posts), use the label ‘OOC’ (meaning out-of-character). Non-roleplay posts which are deemed unnecessary (or do not use the label ‘OOC’) may be suppressed.

Do issues/NS statistics matter? If something happens in one of my issues, do I have to include it in my roleplay?

No. You control what your country is like.*

Example:
Nation A is described as a corrupt dictatorship. Nation A does not have to write a corrupt dictatorship for our roleplay world. They could write a democracy.

*You will need to follow the rules and respect the lore.

Does the World Assembly matter? If something happens in the World Assembly, do I have to include it in my roleplay?

No. The World Assembly does not exist in our roleplay world.

How big can my population be?

You can choose your own population. It must be below one billion*. See the population guidelines for more details.

*The management team may make exceptions to this.

Can my puppet or second account join?

Yes.

You can't use a puppet just to increase your main nation's military or economic strength. Our roleplay is not about 'winning'.

You will need to create an overview factbook, a short summary and roleplay posts for your second country if you want to apply for the map.

If a member of the management team asks you if you own any puppet accounts, please tell them.

To join, find the Northern Utopia page and click on the button marked 'Move [insert nation here] to Northern Utopia!'. Look below the World Factbook Entry.

Can I get a spot on the map?

Yes, but we ask that you wait at least two weeks before you make an application with the Linkform.

Do not rush into a map application! To get on to the map, you will need:
