ENACTED BY THE GOVERNMENT IN PARLIAMENT ASSEMBLED ON 10 JULY 2020.

Insertion of Article 2 (Article 2: Elections on Public Holidays) into the Parliamentary Elections Act:

(1) No Elections shall be held in the close proximity of Soveriegn Day.
(2) Sovereign Day shall be 5 August.
(3) Any Elections whose stages or processes as mentioned (i.e. Nomination Day, Polling etc...) in the Parliamentary Elections Act 2020 falls in the period with Sovereign Day in it shall not be called for.
(4) In such circumstance, the Writ of Election shall be issued with Nomination Day starting on 6 August and other dates shall follow suit.
(5) It shall apply to any election which falls in the period with any Public Holiday and shall have a Writ issued only the day after all celebrations are over.

Insertion of Article 3 (Article 3: Elections for the Upper House) into the Parliamentary Elections Act:
(1) Rajya Sabha elections and by-elections shall follow Articles 1 and 2 of the Parliamentary Elections (Amendment) Act (PEEA).
(2) Article 1(5) of the PEEA 2020 shall not apply to this section.
(3) Elections will be held two days after the nomination and results announced the same day.
