Walloonian Cynulliad election, 2019
The 2019 Walloonian Cynulliad election was the 15th triennial election for the Cynulliad (Assembly), the lower house of the Walloonian Gyngres (Congress). Going into the election, the Central Left Party had a comfortable 13-seat majority, but a resurgence from the Walloonian Conservative Party saw the Central Left's majority cut down to 3 seats. The 10 seats that the Central Left Party lost were all in Llanelli and northern Porthcawl, areas that had been dubbed the "shipping belt" by political commentators. Llanelli and northern Porthcawl often lean liberal, but the seats of Llanfair and Llanwrtyd in Llanelli and Bearsden in Porthcawl voted for Walloonians United members for the first time since the 1980s. Broxburn, Macynlleth, and Risca in Porthcawl voted for Walloonian Conservatives for the first time in their history.
The result of the election was that the Centre Left Party found it more difficult than previous to pass intended legislation, such as measures to curb student loan debt. However, they did pass an election reform bill with the supply of the Progressive Democratic Party, who won seven seats. A few months after the election, the Walloonian Conservative Party changed its name to the Libertarian Party to more accurately reflect its values.
