National Defense Curriculum

INFO: Considering Alaniztan's geopolitical position in a multipolar world inhabited by both progressive and reactionary powers and the limited capabilities of Alaniztan's Revolutionary Armed Forces following the collapse of the Blas dictatorship and purge of Blas sympathetic elements in the now defunct National Armed Forces, the Ministry of Education, in conjunction with the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution(CDRs), requires that all student citizens take a National Defense class in order to pass secondary education. All student citizens going to trade school or university after completing secondary school must take another class on National Defense in order to receive their diploma regardless of major or field of study.

This document provided by Alaniztan's Ministry of Education provides insight into defensive preparations instilled into the population in the case of foreign imperialist aggression.

Course Description: After the Great February Revolution of 1997, Alaniztan was placed in a unique geopolitical situation as a nascent socialist state surrounded by capitalist powers. As revolutionaries and as patriots, it is the duty of each citizen to defend the fatherland against foreign aggression and counterrevolutionary subversion. This course was designed to promote a better understanding on the important role civil society plays in defending the socialist project and how as individuals it is important for citizens to be educated and have broad understanding of the politics at play in the struggle against imperialism and for Alaniztan's irrevocable claim to national sovereignty.

Topics Overview


Topic 1 - Nature of Imperialist Aggression

Staying informed on Alaniztan's international affairs and the geopolitical strategies of foreign governments is key to understanding of the reasoning behind Alaniztan's national defense plan. In this topic, students must be able to answer the following questions.

1. What are the different forms of aggression that an imperialist power could employ to undermine Alaniztan? In detail explain each one.

2. Define what constitutes a "vital sector" and what counterrevolutionary elements seek to accomplish via sabotaging them.

3. What are the key aspects of unconventional warfare?

4. What explains the use unconventional warfare by imperialist powers against revolutionary states, like Alaniztan?

Topic 2 - Fundamentals of National Defense

Civil society plays an important role in the defense of Alaniztan's national sovereignty. Developing an understanding of Alaniztan's political social structure is key in formulating a "big picture" view of national defense. In this topic, students must be able to answer the following questions.

1. How is the Alaniztani Communist Party(ACP) tied to the concept of national sovereignty and the socialist character of Alaniztan?

2. Is Alaniztan's national defense an activity that only concerns military personal? Explain your reasoning in detail.

3. What was the reasoning behind the establishment of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution(CDR) in 1998, one year after the triumph of the revolution?

4. Compare and contrast the role of the CDRs during peacetime vs during wartime.

5. In what ways would aggression against Alaniztan imply not just a struggle against the Alaniztani government but also a struggle againist the Alaniztani people?

Topic 3 - Asymmetric Warfare

Although the may imperialists out do Alaniztani in raw military strength on paper. Modern military history has shown that their is more to winning a war than having superior quantity and quality. In this topic students, must be able to answer the following questions.

1. What are the three key strategic decision made by revolutionary forces in that allowed for the triumph over the Blas dictatorship despite the former's supposed inferiority in both numbers and military equipment?

2. Define the terms 'protracted popular struggle'. From where did it originate and how could this military concept be applied in the struggle against a hypothetical imperialist intervention in Alaniztan?

3. Why has the revolutionary leadership maintained that mountainous and remote areas of the countryside must remain populated and well supplied? How does this relate to national defense? Explain in detail.

4. Why must the policies of mandatory two year military service and compulsory gun ownership be continued so long after the triumph of the revolution? On what condition could they potentially be abolished?

5. How should Alaniztani forces exploit the systemic wearing down of the enemy? What tactics should be avoided when confronting a more powerful enemy?
