Government

Vexia is made up of four branches of government; legislative, executive, judicial, and imperial branches, though they are drastically different from their more common counterparts. The legislative branch is made up of the Vex Assembly, a bicameral legislative body, with the lower house named the Hall of Commons and the upper house being the High Convention. The Hall of Commons is made up of 210 Imperial Delegates, representing a Lower District within a province. These Delegates work to create and vote on legislation, similarly for any other legislative system. Delegates serve for 6 years, until they are scheduled for reelection with no definitive term limit. The Commons is led by the High President who is elected by their peers. The upper house of the Vex Assembly is the High Convention, which is composed of High Councilors, is comprised of the Lord Councilors and Viceroyal Councilor. The Lord Councilors are Councilors who have had their title and position in the Convention passed down to them, the title and seat being hereditary. Viceroyal Councilors are Councilors who are appointed by the Empress with the assistance of the Premier, who serve for life. Unlike Lords, the title of Viceroyal is not hereditary and after the death of a Viceroyal, the Emperor or Empress will appoint a new one. It is responsible for scrutinizes legislation that have been passed by the Hall of Commons, reviewing and amending them. However, it is unable to vote down bills from becoming law but instead returns bills to the Commons for further review and vote. The Convention is led by the Councilor Paramount, elected among their peers every 4 years.

The executive branch is made up of the Premier of the People and his or her Consuls, who aid and advise the Premier on leading the nation. The Premier is the head of state of Vexia, being delegated as the definite Second-In-Command in Vexia. Due to the monarch’s usual detachment from the political and governance sphere, the Premier functions as the de facto leader of the nation whereas the sovereign is the de jure leader. Thus, the Premier serves as the military’s Commander-in-Chief with the sovereign as Supreme Commander. This responsibility for the Premier lasts an entire 10-year term unless one decides to resign before then. To aid the Premier, they appoint a Cabinet of Consuls which head a Court, such as Foreign Affairs and the Interior. Some additional powers that the Premier holds is the power to sign and create treaties with foreign powers with approval from the sovereign, able to veto legislation in the legislature, and is able to pardon criminals with sovereign approval.

The judicial branch is comprised of the various minor and major Arbitratories in the nation, most notably the High Arbitratorie. The responsibility of the judicial branch is to interpret the laws through the hearing and judgments on various legal cases. Chief among them being the High Arbitortie whose duty is to provide judgment on cases and controversies pertaining to the nation and its various subdivisions, whatever they may be. The High Arbitortie is made up of 9 judges who serve for life, 4 of which are appointed by the Premier, 4 by the sovereign, and 1 elected by the citizenry. All appointed High Arbitorties are put through an approval process by the Vex Assembly.

The Imperial branch is made up of the sovereign, their Paramount Council, and dynastic family. Where the previous three branches are equal in power with each other, the Imperial branch supersedes them in power and jurisdiction. The sovereign, the head of the Imperial branch, has near unlimited power due to the empowerment of the monarch and thus much of the decisions made by the lesser branches have to be approved by the monarch. This branch can dismiss the legislature, executive, and judicial branch and replace it within a day or so due to this power, allowing it to have unlimited power for oversight and direction over the government. They are aided by the Paramount Council, composed of Lord Paramounts, appointed directly by the sovereign.

Political Factions

In contemporary Vex politics, there have been 6 popular political parties that have influence. They are as follows:

  • sql - Imperial Democratic Union: A liberal and liberal-conservative party with a noted focus on civic nationalism.

  • sql - Old Covenant Front: A monarchist and conservative party.

  • sql - Citizen Action Party: An umbrella party for center-left and left wing groups. Its status as a catch-all party has social democrats, democratic socialists, and DeLeonists as its members.

  • sql - National Olmoni Coalition: A popular front representing the Autonomous Province Olmostan.

  • sql - Aeternium Forward Party: The far-right catch all party in Vexia, with major Strasserist influence.

  • sql - Green-Red League: A popular front for syndicalism, left-wing anarchism, trade unionism, and democratic confederalism.

The recent Neo-Millennium Covenant by Empress Arianus and her liberal-conservative reforms have led to these political factions to blossom, as culmination previous reforms by the Aubelots. Currently, the Imperial Democratic Union and the National Olmoni Coalition are united in a current coalition government, though they have no hold over the High Convention. The Vexikalon Covenant Front is the current opposition party.
