In 1986, Alf Freyrsson, a mogul of the traction engine business, came into possession of a number of German vehicle blueprints from WW2, and this enabled him to launch Viking Gruppe, a holding company with Viking Dráttarvélar (tractors and traction engines), Viking Auto (automobiles), Viking Mótor (automobile and motorcycle parts), Viking Vélhjóllur (motorcycles and scooters), and Viking Traktor (military vehicles). Viking Gruppe is the most successful automobile and automobile parts manufacturer in Vinland and a mainstay of the world's automobile industry. Lumber (a government-managed industry) and petroleum (mostly foreign companies) make up the other top exports of Vinland. Vinland suffers from poor-quality public universities, so most Vinlensk students go elsewhere: the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia being primary. Healthcare (outside of the military) also doesn't cover any but the most routine appointments and any overly expensive, rare, or experimental medication, so Vinlendings often travel to the United States to receive treatment. Magnesium, tungsten, and gold are major imports, and the government heavily imports foreign currency for its reserves.
