The Commonwealth of Vanbella is a massive, orderly nation, ruled by Overlord Rex with an iron fist, and notable for its hatred of cheese, punitive income tax rates, and stringent health and safety legislation. The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical, humorless population of 3.748 billion Vanbellans are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

The large, corrupt, well-organized government is effectively ruled by the Department of Defense, with Industry also on the agenda, while Spirituality and International Aid are ignored. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Novakia. The average income tax rate is 93.9%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The frighteningly efficient Vanbellan economy, worth 906 trillion mallards a year, is quite specialized and mostly comprised of black market activity, especially in Arms Manufacturing, Information Technology, Retail, and Gambling.
