Explanation of the Unusual Tyramonian Economic System

Think of Tyramon as a military and the stuff needed to sustain it. Keep in mind that this information would generally not be known to the rest of the world due to the lack of news and lack of visitors to Tyramon, but it could be discovered with extended surveillance or spies.

Currency:
Golden Seashells are used almost solely for international trade. The government doesn't really have any currency; they own whatever they decide to own and pay people with objects (food, a place to live, etc.). Citizens generally trade, with common, regular items (e.g., chicken eggs, seeds, bullets, hand grenades) sometimes acting as an unofficial currency. People in large cities will sometimes accept Golden Seashells.

The Economy:
The government controls all major industry. Industries are focused on arms production and mining. Tyramon is known for exporting several valuable ores, including uranium, titanium, iron, and some gold, along with small amounts of countless other ores. Tyramon also exports some weapons, but a large portion is directed towards the Tyramonian military. Most other industries provide little export and are used to provide for the people, although excesses in expensive goods are exported if they fall out of fashion with the small elite class.

Class Divisions:
The small elite class includes mostly the people in high-level government positions and the top military positions. (~2% of the population)

The middle class consists of those in mid-level government and military positions: industrial managers and military officers. (~6% of the population)

The lower class consists of laborers and soldiers. They are about as poor as people can get, but they manage to get along well enough. Those in the military have it slightly better, as a starving soldier is viewed as being less effective. Thus, soldiers often hope for war as they will eat better then. (~70% of the population)

The slave-prisoner class is at the bottom. They consist of the criminals and slaves, which - often - are one and the same in Tyramon. Around 9 in 10 of them are worked to death, especially as they are the most commonly sent to mine uranium. Sometimes, these people manage to work or even escape to the lower class. (~22% of the population)
