The Armed Republic of The Maximilliat is a small, safe nation, remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape, compulsory military service, and irreverence towards religion. The quiet, industrious population of 32 million Zorrisicans have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Welfare, Defense, and Education. The average income tax rate is 39.6%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but inefficient Maximilliatian economy, worth 1.28 trillion Livres a year, is fairly diversified and led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, with major contributions from Uranium Mining, Woodchip Exports, and Cheese Exports. State-owned companies are reasonably common. Average income is 40,138 Livres, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.3 times as much as the poorest.

Citizens receive notices of disenfranchisement along with their parking tickets, citizens who plan overseas vacations are barred from running for political office, male friends are often accompanied by a female relative in order to prove their 'straightness', and dozens of viewers go online to hear whether a comma has been added to Clause 5 in Subsection B of Law 58375. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. The Maximilliat's national animal is the Plananariz Cobra, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.

The Maximilliat is ranked 179,291st in the world and 8,848th in The North Pacific for Highest Unexpected Death Rate, scoring 28.72 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
