The Free Land of The Gen is a very large, efficient nation, notable for its rum-swilling pirates, barren, inhospitable landscape, and frequent executions. The hard-nosed, hard-working, democratic population of 163 million Genians are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.
The tiny, pro-business government is dominated by the Department of Defense, although Administration, Public Transport, and Spirituality are also considered important, while International Aid and Welfare are ignored. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 5.5%.
The thriving Genian economy, worth 11.3 trillion Pebbles a year, is driven almost entirely by the private sector, which is fairly diversified and led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, with major contributions from Uranium Mining, Pizza Delivery, and Retail. Average income is 69,272 Pebbles, but there is a large disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 353,763 per year while the poor average 7,467, a ratio of 47.4 to 1.
Camera crews have accompanied conscripted dancers to film 'Marching On Ice', The Gen City has become the number one destination for urban exploration in The Order of the Grey Wardens, judges are rumored to find in favor of whoever bribes them the most, and interest rates mysteriously drop whenever the CBG Governor goes house hunting. Crime, especially youth-related, is pervasive, perhaps because of the country's complete lack of prisons. The Gen's national animal is the Racoon, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.
The Gen is ranked 274,341st in the world and 155th in The Order of the Grey Wardens for Largest Black Market, with 59.4 billion Standard Monetary Units.
