The Republic of Sudkan is a large, safe nation, remarkable for its compulsory military service, state-planned economy, and stringent health and safety legislation. The quiet, industrious population of 74 million Sudkanians enjoy extensive civil rights and enjoy a level of social equality free from the usual accompanying government corruption.

The relatively small, liberal, socially-minded government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Welfare, and Education. The average income tax rate is 14.1%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but sluggish Sudkanian economy, worth 2.40 trillion Trades a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a slick, highly efficient, broadly diversified black market in Trout Farming, Basket Weaving, Beef-Based Agriculture, and Furniture Restoration. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 32,446 Trades, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Voting is voluntary, prisoners can't do number twos without their "toilet buddy" present, surveillance cameras are banned, and the stock market has been destroyed for its own protection. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown. Sudkan's national animal is the Sudkan-Pukeko, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Sudkan is ranked 267,060th in the world and 44th in Liberlandia for Highest Average Tax Rates, with 14.09 Effective Tax Rate.
