The People's Republic of Strachostan is a massive, environmentally stunning nation, ruled by Sergei Volkov with an even hand, and notable for its pith helmet sales, prohibition of alcohol, and sprawling nuclear power plants. The hard-nosed, cynical population of 3.366 billion Strachostanis have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The enormous, corrupt government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Law & Order, and Administration. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Strachograd. The average income tax rate is 73.5%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The thriving Strachostani economy, worth 301 trillion redens a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a large, well-organized, quite specialized black market in Arms Manufacturing, Information Technology, and Door-to-door Insurance Sales. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. The seats at the back of the parliament are reserved for indigenous ministers, walls don't have ears, honey bees are frequently shot for looking at people 'in a funny way', and CSI Forest is this year's hit new crime show. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Strachostan's national animal is the honey bee, which is also the nation's favorite main course.
