Location: the Pacific

Regional Influence: Sprat

The Republic of Schmectorq is a massive, safe nation, notable for its daily referendums, restrictive gun laws, and complete absence of social welfare. The hard-nosed, devout population of 1.343 billion Schmectorqians are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Industry, and Administration. The average income tax rate is 55.2%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The powerhouse Schmectorqian economy, worth 112 trillion lire a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a slick, highly efficient, quite specialized black market in Uranium Mining, Information Technology, Furniture Restoration, and Arms Manufacturing. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 84,071 lire, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

The deaf are perplexed when the weather report tells them that the wind will be "bringing some rain along the Nazi ghosts", citizens live in superstitious fear of the mysterious glowing clouds that float over Schmectorq, spousal homicide rates have tripled in recent months, and statues of famous citizens are erected or demolished on a purely partisan basis. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Schmectorq's national animal is the giraffe, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.

Schmectorq is ranked 31,875th in the world and 1,008th in the Pacific for Largest Automobile Manufacturing Sector, scoring 4,819.34 on the Henry Ford Productivity Index.
