Autonomy Granted to Söder-Öar

The Riksdag of the Republic of Ruotsaland has granted local autonomy to the region of Söder-Öar, allowing local residents stronger rights to govern policies in, among others, language usage/rights, tangible infrastructure policy that includes budgeting, and taxation on this additional local level. As such, a new body will be formed within this area to oversee:

In Soeder-Oear, there will be Eestiasutus, a body made up of 35 local members, elected on the basis of outright proportional representation with a percentage as a barrier to entry set to 5%. Elections will take place every 2 years.

Any conflict of national law with local laws passed by this body can be raised with the National Court in Helsingfors, either by local residents in these devolved territories or by the Government itself.

The numbers of representatives in the Riksdag, despite this devolution, will not change, and citizens in these devolved territory will enjoy the same rights and privileges within the Republic of Ruotsaland as they always did.

Elections will begin immediately in Söder-Öar to decide on this devolved structure.
