The Ordensstaat of Rattenreich is a colossal, cultured nation, ruled by Dear Leader Josef Mouseleni with an iron fist, and renowned for its ubiquitous missile silos, infamous sell-swords, and zero percent divorce rate. The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless, devout population of 5.733 billion Rats are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

The large, corrupt, moralistic, socially-minded, well-organized government prioritizes Defense, although Law & Order is also considered important, while International Aid isn't funded at all. The average income tax rate is 98.2%.

The frighteningly efficient Ratten economy, worth a remarkable 1,271 trillion marks a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a slick, highly efficient, fairly diversified black market in Arms Manufacturing, Uranium Mining, Beef-Based Agriculture, and Information Technology. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is an amazing 221,727 marks, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

The government has become increasingly militant, fancy dress parties are raided by military police for new recruits, power to the people comes from the barrel of a gun, and Ratten watches are often the only thing to survive a disaster intact. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Rattenreich's national animal is the boar, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its national religion is Rattencreed.
