The History of the Empire, Volume 1

Roughly 12,000 years ago, the region that would eventually be called Pax Dracon was a wild, savage place. Hostile predators, ranging from mountain cats of unusual size, to highly organized wolf packs, to the massive Great Dragons that prowled the skies, coupled with fertile but rough terrain made life for primitive but long-lived Drakari to be nasty, brutish, and short.

During this time, a group of five-thousand Drakari banded together to form a clan, the first of many to come, for the interest of shared resources and protection. Over the centuries, other clans began to come together, each forming a permanent settlement in the glens and mountains that dotted the land. Hunting and gathering was eventually abandoned in favor of agriculture and animal husbandry as the settlements grew and pushed the wild lands back.
