The Empire of New Khemet is a huge, orderly nation, remarkable for its compulsory military service, prohibition of alcohol, and keen interest in outer space. The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 440 million Neo-Romans are ruled with an iron fist by the corrupt, dictatorship government, which oppresses anyone who isn't on the board of a Fortune 500 company. Large corporations tend to be above the law, and use their financial clout to gain ever-increasing government benefits at the expense of the poor and unemployed.

The relatively small, corrupt, moralistic, well-organized government is primarily concerned with Defense, although Industry, Administration, and Law & Order are also considered important, while Environment and Spirituality are ignored. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Nova Roma. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 24.7%.

The frighteningly efficient Neo-Roman economy, worth 56.5 trillion denarii a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, with major contributions from Retail, Information Technology, and Door-to-door Insurance Sales. Black market activity is frequent. Average income is an impressive 128,506 denarii, but there is a significant disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 473,234 per year while the poor average 24,649, a ratio of 19.2 to 1.

The world outside is only known of in folklore, Leader's reputation is hard as nails, politicians sweat as journalists scour internet archives for any mention of them, and the wheel has been patented by at least a hundred people. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. New Khemet's national animal is the imperial eagle, which is also the nation's favorite main course.
