The Allied States of Madriylia is a gargantuan, cultured nation, ruled by Jindrich Masek with a fair hand, and notable for its deadly medical pandemics, fear of technology, and spontaneously combusting cars. The hard-nosed, hard-working, democratic, devout population of 13.62 billion Madriylians are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

The minute, corrupt, pro-business government, or what there is of one, is dominated by the Department of Industry, with Education and Healthcare also on the agenda, while Welfare and Administration aren't funded at all. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Decin. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 2.4%.

The frighteningly efficient Madriylian economy, worth a remarkable 1,744 trillion Dollars a year, is driven almost entirely by the private sector, which is broadly diversified and led by the Retail industry, with significant contributions from Gambling, Information Technology, and Soda Sales. Average income is an impressive 128,068 Dollars, but there is an enormous disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 746,320 per year while the poor average 10,364, a ratio of 72.0 to 1.

If foreigners can hit a spittoon from five paces they get a free holiday to Madriylia, people talk about things being better when men were men, the mood of raunchy movies is often ruined by the sound of babies crying, and distrust of taps has many people bathing only with bottled mineral water. Crime, especially youth-related, is all-pervasive, probably because of the absence of a police force. Madriylia's national animal is the Fox, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its national religion is Secularism.
