The Allied States of Madriylia is a gargantuan, socially progressive nation, ruled by Jindrich Masek with a fair hand, and renowned for its rum-swilling pirates, barren, inhospitable landscape, and deadly medical pandemics. The hard-nosed, hard-working, democratic, devout population of 11.982 billion Madriylians are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

The minute, corrupt, pro-business government, or what there is of one, is dominated by the Department of Industry, with Education and Healthcare also on the agenda, while Administration and Welfare aren't funded at all. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Decin. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 2.5%.

The frighteningly efficient Madriylian economy, worth a remarkable 1,518 trillion Dollars a year, is driven almost entirely by the private sector, which is broadly diversified and led by the Retail industry, with significant contributions from Gambling, Information Technology, and Soda Sales. Average income is an impressive 126,709 Dollars, but there is an enormous disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 728,252 per year while the poor average 10,590, a ratio of 68.8 to 1.

Even secular Madriylians are shouting "Blessed are the cheesemakers!", the youth vote is only counted when kindergarten teachers ask who drew the best picture, the nation's once beautiful countryside has turned brown as farmers spray potent pesticides, and pristine wilderness has been trashed in the quest for cheaper oil. Crime, especially youth-related, is all-pervasive, probably because of the absence of a police force. Madriylia's national animal is the Fox, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its national religion is Secularism.

Madriylia is ranked 292,815^th in the world and 229^th in Confederation of Corrupt Dictators for Lowest Crime Rates, with 4.89 law-abiding acts per hour.
