The Republic of Lukhia is a huge, safe nation, notable for its compulsory military service, irreverence towards religion, and punitive income tax rates. The compassionate, democratic population of 252 million Lukhians are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whomever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Education, Defense, and Welfare. The average income tax rate is 55.5%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The Lukhian economy, worth 10.4 trillion ikets a year, is led by the Book Publishing industry, with major contributions from Woodchip Exports, Basket Weaving, and Retail. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 41,175 ikets, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Photographers can be found hiding behind the curtains in Leader's bedroom, teenage TV characters are played by thirty-year-olds by the end of the second season, scenic mountain valleys are flooded with water as damming projects get underway, and the government has spent days debating the merits of a petition calling for a ban on sporks. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Lukhia's national animal is the cat, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Lukhia is ranked 40,128^th in the world and 72^nd in The Western Isles for Most Advanced Public Transport, scoring 1,458.17 on the Societal Mobility Rating.
