The Republic of Lock-Jaw is a colossal, efficient nation, remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape, frequent executions, and disturbing lack of elderly people. The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical, devout population of 7.15 billion Lock-Jawians are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

The large, corrupt, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Law & Order, and Industry. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 70.6%.

The frighteningly efficient Lock-Jawian economy, worth 690 trillion Bolts a year, is fairly diversified and dominated by the Arms Manufacturing industry, with significant contributions from Woodchip Exports, Automobile Manufacturing, and Uranium Mining. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 96,621 Bolts, but there is a significant disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 292,488 per year while the poor average 24,836, a ratio of 11.8 to 1.

Citizens tint their front windows to avoid starring in the 'TV Detector Patrol Unit' documentary, they unpaved paradise and tore up a parking lot (ooh, bop bop bop), freighter lifeboats have been replaced by state of the art marker buoys so divers can recover the cargo after they sink, and town welcome signs list corporate sponsors. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Lock-Jaw's national animal is the Robot, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.
