Large corporations tend to be above the law, and use their financial clout to gain ever-increasing government benefits at the expense of the poor and unemployed.

The relatively small government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Education, and Law & Order. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 9.7%.

The powerhouse Holt-Fortian economy, worth 25.8 trillion Coronas a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Information Technology industry, with major contributions from Arms Manufacturing, Retail, and Uranium Mining. Average income is 93,946 Coronas, with the richest citizens earning 9.0 times as much as the poorest.

The fire brigade often deal with cases of burnt toast, cat memes without alt text are now illegal, students memorise knock-knock jokes for their mandatory twice-a-term Comedy Examinations, and strange looking men with big red noses are found hiding behind bushes and inside dustbins. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Holt-Fort's national animal is the Lion, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.
