Location: Communist Asia

Regional Influence: Hegemony

The Empire of Gol-Mar is a huge, efficient nation, renowned for its prohibition of alcohol, compulsory military service, and irreverence towards religion. The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 235 million Gol-Marians are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.

The relatively small, well-organized government prioritizes Defense, although Law & Order, Healthcare, and Education are also considered important, while International Aid and Spirituality are ignored. The average income tax rate is 11.0%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The very strong Gol-Marian economy, worth 16.8 trillion Castle Darics a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, with major contributions from Uranium Mining, Information Technology, and Book Publishing. Average income is 71,600 Castle Darics, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.5 times as much as the poorest.

The Navy has outraged the international community by sinking a boatload of refugees to prevent them reaching the shore, police are arresting costumed characters at comic book conventions, large areas of Gol-Mar are not accessible by the public, and libraries are refusing to stock A Midsummer Night's Dream because it has an ass in it. Crime, especially youth-related, is almost non-existent, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Gol-Mar's national animal is the Tiger, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.

Gol-Mar is ranked 132,362nd in the world and 2nd in Communist Asia for Most Primitive, scoring -73.14 on the Scary Big Number Scale.
