The Fiefdom of Deretanica is a colossal, cultured nation, remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape, frequent executions, and parental licensing program. The hard-working, democratic, devout population of 8.125 billion Deretanicans are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. Teachers prefer to give 'Maybe, Maybe Not' tests when dealing with sensitive subjects, citizens who use the word "Violet" incorrectly find their WhoTube content taken down, male med students learning female anatomy do so with their eyes tightly closed, and surveillance cameras are banned. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Deretanica's national animal is the dolphin, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to heavy metals seepage into national waterways.
