The Glorious People's Republic of Democratic Yaradan is a massive, orderly nation, ruled by the Glorious People's Leader with an iron fist, and renowned for its restrictive gun laws, devotion to social welfare, and stringent health and safety legislation. The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless, devout population of 4.665 billion Yaradanians are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

The enormous, corrupt, moralistic, socially-minded, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defense, and Spirituality. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Yaradania. The average income tax rate is 80.5%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The large but sluggish Democratic economy, worth 141 trillion units a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a slick, highly efficient, highly specialized black market in Trout Farming, Arms Manufacturing, and Pizza Delivery. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 30,381 units, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Yaradanian Christianity has been named as Democratic Yaradan's national religion, returning tourists and businessmen are detained without trial if they belong to the "wrong" religion, citizens have an obligation to remain silent and anything they say may be used against them, and midnight raids drag couples from their homes in the name of decency. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Democratic Yaradan's national animal is the tiger, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its national religion is Yaradanian Christianity.
