The Holy Empire of Cynalan is a huge, safe nation, renowned for its otherworldly petting zoo, pith helmet sales, and free-roaming dinosaurs. The hard-nosed, devout population of 240 million Cynalians are highly moralistic and fiercely conservative, in the sense that they tend to believe most things should be outlawed. People who have good jobs and work quietly at them are lauded; others are viewed with suspicion.

The medium-sized government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defense, and Social Policy. The average income tax rate is 32.9%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but inefficient Cynalian economy, worth 11.5 trillion Cynalian Crowns a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Door-to-door Insurance Sales industry, with major contributions from Uranium Mining, Retail, and Basket Weaving. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 48,022 Cynalian Crowns, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Foreign militias and child smuggling rings will always love Leader, extreme hiring regulations mean a job in Cynalan is often a lifetime appointment, religious organizations are being forced to leave the country or pay income taxes like everybody else, and no-one can foil the ambitions of Big Aluminium. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Cynalan's national animal is the Snow Cat, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.
