The Free Land of Champignons is a colossal, orderly nation, ruled by Roger Singleton with an iron fist, and renowned for its deadly medical pandemics, lack of airports, and vat-grown people. The hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical, humorless population of 8.774 billion Champignonsians are ruled with an iron fist by the corrupt, dictatorship government, which oppresses anyone who isn't on the board of a Fortune 500 company. Large corporations tend to be above the law, and use their financial clout to gain ever-increasing government benefits at the expense of the poor and unemployed.

The relatively small, corrupt, moralistic, well-organized government is primarily concerned with Defense, although Industry, Administration, and Law & Order are also considered important, while Environment and International Aid are ignored. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Laise. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 45.1%.

The frighteningly efficient Champignonsian economy, worth a remarkable 2,060 trillion marmelades a year, is fairly diversified and led by the Arms Manufacturing industry, with major contributions from Gambling, Retail, and Soda Sales. Black market activity is rampant. Crime, especially youth-related, is all-pervasive, perhaps because of the country's complete lack of prisons. Champignons's national animal is the chihuahua, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its national religion is freedom.
