The Free Land of Central Maryland is a very large, socially progressive nation, remarkable for its barren, inhospitable landscape, complete absence of social welfare, and spontaneously combusting cars. The hard-nosed, hard-working population of 156 million Central Marylanders enjoy some of the most opulent lifestyles in the region, unless they are unemployed or working-class, in which case they are variously starving to death or crippled by easily preventable diseases.

There is no government in the normal sense of the word; however, a small group of community-minded, liberal, pro-business individuals is solely concerned with Defense. Income tax is unheard of.

The strong Central Marylandian economy, worth 6.64 trillion Central Bank Notes a year, is driven almost entirely by the private sector, which is fairly diversified and led by the Basket Weaving industry, with major contributions from Gambling, Woodchip Exports, and Automobile Manufacturing. Average income is 42,543 Central Bank Notes, but there is a vast disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 281,159 per year while the poor average 2,485, a ratio of 113 to 1.

Anti-government political posters adorn every building like wallpaper, tumbleweeds made of litter adorn city streets, thousands of children die every day from easily curable illnesses, and the nation's healthcare system has taken a "survival of the fittest" approach in administering care. Crime, especially youth-related, is pervasive, probably because of the absence of a police force. Central Maryland's national animal is the Oriole, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.

Central Maryland is ranked 312,540th in the world and 3,218th in the Pacific for Largest Cheese Export Sector, scoring -7.27 on the Mozzarella Productivity Index.
