The Watchfires of BE-1 is a gargantuan, orderly nation, renowned for its frequent executions, pith helmet sales, and rampant corporate plagiarism. The hard-nosed, cynical, devout population of 12.952 billion BE-1ians are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."
The large, corrupt government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defense, and Education. The average income tax rate is 56.0%.
The very strong BE-1ian economy, worth 979 trillion $$s a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Beef-Based Agriculture industry, with major contributions from Information Technology, Furniture Restoration, and Basket Weaving. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 75,626 $$s, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 3.5 times as much as the poorest.
Local mafias have a tough time disposing of dead snitches without catching the attention of recycling authorities, internet ads promising "hot singles in your area" are even less accurate than they used to be, families are left homeless as entire suburbs are bulldozed on the whim of tribal chiefs, and old dogs don't have to learn new tricks but they have to prove they haven't forgotten old ones. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. BE-1's national animal is the Death's-head Hawkmoth, which can occasionally be seen dodging aircraft in the nation's cities.
BE-1 is ranked 145,515th in the world and 1st in Bag End for Largest Publishing Industry, scoring 1,403.41 on the Bella Potter Productivity e-Index.
