The Watchfires of BE-1 is a gargantuan, orderly nation, renowned for its frequent executions, pith helmet sales, and rampant corporate plagiarism. The hard-nosed, cynical, devout population of 12.952 billion BE-1ians are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

The very strong BE-1ian economy, worth 979 trillion $$s a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Beef-Based Agriculture industry, with major contributions from Information Technology, Furniture Restoration, and Basket Weaving. BE-1's national animal is the Death's-head Hawkmoth, which can occasionally be seen dodging aircraft in the nation's cities.
