The Kingdom of Auralon is a gargantuan, efficient nation, ruled by King Faustus with an iron fist, and remarkable for its closed borders, keen interest in outer space, and enslaved workforce. The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless population of 16.174 billion Auralonians are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The large, corrupt, socially-minded, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Law & Order, and Education. The average income tax rate is 95.8%.

The frighteningly efficient Auralonian economy, worth a remarkable 2,769 trillion golds a year, is quite specialized and led by the Information Technology industry, with major contributions from Arms Manufacturing and Tourism. State-owned companies are common. Average income is an impressive 171,213 golds, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Even secular Auralonians are shouting "Blessed are the cheesemakers!", nouveau riche farmers diligently take care of their golden calf herds, loudmouthed journalists are given the chop, and people stand their fridges back-to-front to benefit from the free heating. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Auralon's national animal is the cat, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.
