Aglrinia, officially the Shizhu State of Aglrinia, is a unitary sovereign state and island country in Audax. Situated in the Impetus Ocean, with one territory in the Excerno Ocean. It is Audax's largest island nation, with more than forty islands. At 2,049,300 square kilometres (791,239 square miles). It has an estimated population of over seven hundred ninety five million and is Audax’s most populous country. Aglrinia's most populous island, Tanah, contains more than half of the nation's population.
Aglrinia officially describes itself as a self-reliant, socialist state and formally holds elections. Various media outlets have called it tyrannical, particularly noting the elaborate cult of personality around Mauta Kudu and his family. Mauta Kudu has served as the country’s president since 1990. Aglrinia is often noted as a tyrannical state because of Kudu’s self-described authoritarian style of government.
Mauta Kudu more or less holds all power in the state and the parliament has been shown to be nothing but a display for the entire world at an attempt at the democratic process. Mauta Kudu has enacted policies, such as state ownership of large sections of the economy. The means of production are owned by the state through state-run enterprises and collectivized farms. Most services such as healthcare, education, housing and food production are subsidized or state-funded.
Elections under Mauta Kudu's rule have been widely criticized as unfair or outright nonexistant; and according to many countries and organizations, political opposition has been violently suppressed. Although Aglrinia is officially an atheist state with no official religion and public religion is discouraged the majority religion is muslim, with zoroastrianism in a close second, and sikhism in a distant third.
Aglrinia was condemned by the World Assembly’s security council by resolution #113 in 2013, and admitted to the World Assembly in 2017.
Aglrinia roughly translates from a sixteenth century old Aglrinese word "Aljazirina"; that means 'the island chains'. The Aglrinian nation was born of a separatist revolution, from the nation of Algouria. The nation of Algouria consisted of the majority of the southeastern islands of Audax. After the revolution the newly formed Aglrinian government was unable to maintain control over every island; losing almost all eastern territories, and far southeastern territories.
Government and Politics:
Mauta Sumudra Kudu; born September 7th of 1952) is the __ and current President of Aglrinia holding the office since December 11th 2000. He is also commander-in-chief of the Aglrinian Armed Forces, and General Secretary of the ruling Shizhu Party. Mauta Kudu assumed office through force following the assassination of Abdullah Menon on July 17th of 2000. Kudu was born in 1952. He received a bachelor's degree in Criminology from the University of Taipore (1973). He also holds a PhD in International Relations from the state college of Maharan (1977) and a J.D. from the University of Taipore (1982).
The first Muslim to hold the office of the presidency in Aglrinia, Kudu previously served as the __ Chief of Naval Operations. From November 3rd, 1996 until he assumed the office of Presidency. Prior to that upon graduating law school Kudu worked for Darozi Chemical Corporation. Where he worked on the corporation's legal board, defending the corporation against both civil and federal litigation. He's currently the third-longest-serving Aglrinian leader, surpassed only by Veniamin Fortunatov, and Makhran Cranslou.
Upon seizing control of the Presidency after Menon's assassination. Kudu's first act was to declare the country a socialist republic, under the guise of people's republic. In 2001, he consolidated his power by becoming General Secretary of the Shizhu Party (the only legalized party in Aglrinia), making him de jure head of state. His political apparatus sent many thousands of political opponents to prison or psychiatric hospitals. Kudu has been able to maintain the ban along with other laws enacted against parliament making Aglrinia a one-party state. Using the argument that giving Kudu the majority of the power, helps accelerate the legislative process. Therefore, the nation is now safe from further genocidal regimes However, the Kudu Administration has displayed a significantly higher level of intolerance towards the most basic forms of dissent. In comparison to that of prior Aglrinian Presidencies.
The Kudu administration has been particularly eager to squash the dissent of non-muslims; occasionally granting the small exception to Jains and Zoroastrianists within the nation. However, the aforementioned religions have also received little to no repercussions under the Kudu administration. Therefore, they don't truly have much reason to protest - at least in regards to their own civil and political freedoms. But, the administration has yet to show any signs of leniency towards the Jewish, Catholic, Christian or Pagan population. After protests regarding the results of what's been deemed a "show election" internationally when Kudu won with 87.9% of the vote Kudu reacted by saying that anyone going to opposition protests would have their necks wrung "as one might a duck."
Under the current administration the Ministry of Defence now spends approximately sixty percent of its declared budget on the Navy. Unlike the previous administrations which spent approximately forty-five percent of the declared budget on the Navy. The Kudu administration has expressed a very keen interest in upgrading the current Naval hardware, investing in new hardware, and the means of "experimental Naval Warfare."
Aglrinia is widely accused of having perhaps the worst human rights record in the whole of Audax. The Aglrinian population is rather strictly managed by the state and all aspects of daily life are subject to control by the Shizhu party and state planning. Employment is managed by the party on the basis of both political reliability and devotion to the state. While travel is strictly regulated by the Kahala Ministry; immigration and emigration are currently outlawed, but the ministry grants rare exceptions.
Kudu has been known to describe himself as having an "authoritarian ruling style". Certain countries have described Aglrinia under Kudu as a dictatorship; the government has accused the same powers of trying to oust Kudu. The World Assembly barred Aglrinia from membership of the institution from 2009 until 2016 for election irregularities.
The Aglrinian government officially recognizes eighteen indigenous ethnicities; however, approximately fifty ethnic groups inhabit the Aglrinian islands. The population of Aglrinia as of 2016 is 794,874,965 of which approximately 63% live in urban areas.
Under the Kudu administration the nation has seen an urbanization rate of 3.29% per year from 2005 to 2016 much higher than that of the previous administration that witnessed an urbanization rate of 1.64%. The average life expectancy is seventy 79.1 years. In 2016 the largest ethnic groups were Javanese (49%), Arab (12.1%), Malayali (6.3%), Assamese (5.6%) and Han (5%).
Both Aglrinese and Bapharan are officially recognized languages; however the principally spoken language is Aglrinese. Aglrinese is spoken by approximately 79% of the populace. But Bapharan is also widely spoken at 44%. The Aglrinian government actively encourages the populace to learn other languages. However, the use of Aglrinese as the official language is enforced with fervor.
Aglrinia has a wide variety of ethnic groups as is common in island nations. The Aglrinian nation is composed of the following ethnic groups;
Aglrinia has two national languages: Aglrinese, and Bapharan. There are more than forty languages and dialects spoken in Aglrinia's numerous islands. However; only Aglrinese is widely used as a business language and in government legislation and it's spoken by the majority of the population. Aglrinese is a variant of Javanese, Arabic, and Nepali. Aglrinese and Bapharan are universally taught in Aglrinian schools, and consequently spoken by nearly every Aglrinian.
Public education is virtually free to those of recognized ethnic groups. The academic year has two semesters, from August to December and January to June. Throughout the nation children are required to attend school from the age of six until they turn twenty. Mandating children attend elementary school, middle school, high school, and two additional years of approved foreign language learning.
As of 2015, there are 1,890 universities in Aglrinia. Entry to higher education depends on the State Placement System. The declared literacy rate is 97.22%; however, experts believe it to be at approximately 84%.
Aglrinia has a universal health care system that covers medical examinations, any surgical interventions, and any post-operator medical care, and provides free or subsidized medicine for a range of diseases. However, healthcare can be refused to a citizen by the state on the grounds of political or religious reasons. The average life expectancy at birth is seventy-seven years for men and eighty-six years for women.
Freedom of religion is guaranteed by Aglrinia's constitution, although religious organizations that lack official approval can be subject to state persecution. The government of the Democratic People's Republic of Aglrinia is officially atheist, and public practice of religion is religion is discouraged. Religious affairs and issues in the country are overseen by the State Administration for Dharika Affairs.
The Aglrinian government officially recognizes only the five indigenous religions: Islam, Jainism, Zoroastrianism, Hinduism, and Shintoism. Aglrinia allows those that don't practice the officially recognized religions to enter the country as foreign workers for temporary work, but does not allow them to practice their faith openly. The percentage of Aglrinian citizens who don't practice the officially recognized religions is officially zero. However, experts estimate the number to be much higher at approximately twenty percent.
